Three articles of this book are translated from Kelüge (Gerhard Krüger), Fulidelande (Friedländer) he Wogelin (Eric Voegelin).
柏拉图作品的篇名译法既需要统一，也需要重拟。在本编中，我有意尝试一些我们认为更为恰切的译法——比如，《法义》而非《法篇》，《王制》而非《国家篇》或《理想国》。这些译法并非不可争议，相反，恰恰为了激发争议。
要搞清楚柏拉图说的是什么，必须首先从他如何说入手。如何说与说的什么没法分开。柏拉图的作品大多是戏剧，要么是演示式的，要么是叙述式的。惟有把柏拉图的作品重演示或叙述一次，才能接近柏拉图所要说的——换言之，惟有以柏拉图的方式才有可能理解柏拉图。
这里辑在一起的三篇论述，都是以复述柏拉图《王制》的方式来阐释《王制》，作者也都是有代表性的人物。
